Everyday outfit
Możliwość zrzucenia z siebie służbowych mundurów, marynarek, butów na obcasach, albo brudnych spodni po dniu na budowie, to ulga i wejście w bezpieczny dom. Rozmaite przebieranki, to niezbędny element zabawy lalkami, gdzie od najmłodszych lat uczymy się, że są stroje na różne okazje. Jest jednak taka grupa ubrań, których nie możemy po prostu z siebie zrzucić. Moja praca jest zamknięta w surowym pudełku, pozwala skupić się na formie lalki barbie, która zamiast modnych ubrań, ma na sobie klasyczny więzienny komplet. W tym stroju przestawało się być kobietą, przestawało się być człowiekiem. Osoba roztapiała się w szarej rzeczywistości ubrana w szary strój. Wielu ludzi dziwi się, że po przeżyciu obozu pracy, więźniowie byli w stanie normalnie funkcjonować, a przecież po wyzwoleniu zrzucano obozowe komplety przywdziewając nowe, niosące nadzieję stroje. Ubranie jest symbolem konkretnego czasu w naszym życiu. Zawsze możemy go zdjąć i odłożyć na półkę.

The ability to shed uniforms, blazers, high heels, or dirty pants after a day on a construction site is a relief—an entry into the safety of home. All kinds of dress-up are an essential part of playing with dolls, where from an early age we learn that there are clothes for different occasions. But there is a category of clothing we can’t simply take off.
My work is enclosed in a stark box, focusing attention on the form of a Barbie doll who, instead of fashionable outfits, wears a classic prison uniform. In that outfit, one ceased to be a woman, ceased to be a human being. The person dissolved into the gray reality, clothed in gray fabric.
Many people are surprised that after experiencing a labor camp, former prisoners were able to function normally. Yet after liberation, they would shed their camp uniforms and put on new garments that carried hope. Clothing is a symbol of a specific time in our lives. And we can always take it off and place it on a shelf.
