“Classical is Beautiful”.
This is a survey of works by lecturers and students from the Department of Printmaking at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw.
Classical is Beautiful is a modest presentation of the Printmaking Department in Warsaw. We present works by students and professors teaching from the first year onward, aiming to show at least a small cross-section of the entire educational process.
The title of the exhibition suggests a presentation of traditional printmaking techniques. However, in today’s multimedia world—video installations, mapping, and other new visual technologies (such as virtual reality), where art increasingly involves the viewer in its creation—we may ask: what is classical, and is there still a place for it?
Let us begin with the idea that contemplative values can be addressed independently of printing techniques. Digital printing uses the most traditional medium—paper—and even in the case of newer prints on fabric or plexiglass, it establishes a calm, static object–viewer relationship. This relationship allows time for reflection, for entering a kind of magical circle of understanding of what we see. This distinguishes printmaking from the moving world of flickering images, where there is no room for pause.
I deeply believe in the message left by Yves Klein—that freedom in art is less about the artist’s freedom and more about the viewer’s freedom, their right to experience before the image whatever they desire, because everything material may at any moment disappear. What remains is what is imagined and felt.

Galeria Zakładu Grafiki WSzP UMK w Toruniu, zaprasza na otwarcie wystawy: „Klasyczne jest piękne”. Jest to przegląd prac prowadzących i studentów z Katedry Grafiki Warsztatowej ASP Warszawa.
Wystawa Klasyczne jest piękne jest niewielkim przeglądem Katedry Grafiki Warsztatowej w Warszawie. Przedstawiamy prace studentów i profesorów uczących od pierwszego roku tak, aby pokazać choć w małym przekroju cały proces dydaktyczny.
Tytuł wystawy sugeruje pokaz tradycyjnych technik graficznych. Jednak w obecnym świecie multimedialny, videoinstalacji, mapingu i innych nowych technik wizualnych (np. virtualreality), gdzie sztuka coraz bardziej angażuje widza w jej stwarzanie, można postawić pytanie – czym jest klasyka, i czy nadal jest na nią miejsce?
Zacznijmy od tego, że można niezależnie od technik druku odwołać się do wartości kontemplacyjnych. Druk cyfrowy posługuje się najbardziej tradycyjnym nośnikiem jakim jest papier,a nawet w przypadku nowszychdruków na tkaninie lub pleksi,nawiązuje się spokojna, statyczna relacja obiekt-odbiorca. Ta relacja daje czas na przemyślenie, na wejście w magiczny krąg zrozumienia tego, co widzimy. To odróżnia grafikę od ruchomego świata migających obrazów, gdzie nie ma miejsca na zatrzymanie.
Głęboko wierzę w przeslanie, jakie pozostawił po sobie Yves Klein, że wolność w sztuce to w mniejszym stopniu swoboda artysty, a bardziej wolność oglądającego, jego prawo doznania przed obrazem tego, czego pragnie, bowiem wszystko co materialne w każdej chwili może przepaść. Pozostanie to, co wyobrażone i odczute.
